Terrain Change Analysis
Terrain change analysis is a differencing discipline: two surfaces, one datum, one boundary, and an explicit statement of what counts as a change.
Overview
- Both epochs must be in the same coordinate reference system and vertical datum; conversion after the fact is error-prone.
- Strip vegetation and structures before differencing, or seasonal growth will dominate the result.
- State a noise threshold and apply it consistently; without one, every epoch reports change everywhere.
- Distinguish systematic shift from real change — a datum offset looks like a site-wide cut or fill.
