Reconciling BIM with Survey Data
Reconciling survey data with BIM fails on two things: differing datums and differing expectations of what the model represents.
Overview
- Agree whether the model is as-designed, as-built or as-planned; deviation against the wrong baseline is meaningless.
- Transform the survey into the project's model space explicitly, and record the transformation used.
- Compare like with like: point cloud to mesh, or extracted contours to design contours.
- Report deviation where it matters structurally — slab levels, kerb lines, column positions — not as a whole-site average.
