Managing Multi-Epoch Survey Data
Multi-epoch survey data becomes unusable long before storage runs out. It becomes unusable when epochs stop being comparable.
Overview
- Record the acquisition parameters, control used and processing settings with each epoch — an epoch without its parameters is not reusable.
- Keep a canonical alignment so that any epoch can be overlaid on any other without rework.
- Version the derived products separately from the raw capture, and never overwrite raw data.
- Name epochs by date of capture, not by processing date.
