How to Assess Supplier Documentation
Supplier documentation is an asset. Its quality predicts, quite reliably, what support will be like after the invoice is paid.
Overview
- Look for documents that state conditions and limitations, not only capabilities — that is the sign of a supplier who knows the product.
- Check whether interface documentation exists and is versioned; its absence predicts an expensive integration.
- Ask which documents were produced by the manufacturer and which were translated or copied.
- A specification with no stated test condition is not a specification; it is marketing.
