Custom Data Acquisition Standards
Data acquisition standards are what make a dataset reusable six months later, by someone who was not there.
Overview
- Define file naming, folder structure, metadata fields and units as a written standard, and enforce it in the capture tool.
- Record the conditions that affect interpretation: time, weather, altitude, sensor settings.
- Decide what is kept and what is discarded at capture time; deleting later is rarely possible.
- Version the standard, and record which version each dataset was captured under.
