API Integration with Business Systems
Reliable API integration depends on how the system handles authentication, missing data, timeouts, retries, duplicate records, and service interruptions. We define these conditions early and test both normal and exception workflows before acceptance.
Overview
- Agree the contract in writing: endpoints, payloads, authentication, rate limits and error semantics.
- Define retry and idempotency behaviour so that a network blip does not create duplicate work orders.
- Log the integration at both ends so that a disputed record can be traced.
- Plan for schema evolution on both sides, and agree a deprecation notice period.
