Assisted Observation for Woodland Search
Woodland search has one dominant limitation: canopy. From above, a person under trees is usually invisible, so the useful product is gaps, edges and open ground.
Overview
- Prioritise ride lines, clearings, tracks and watercourses — the places a person on foot would be visible or would go.
- Thermal detection under canopy is unreliable in daytime and better at night or in early morning.
- Record which areas were actually visible from the sensor, not only which areas were flown.
- Coordinate with ground teams so that aerial and ground coverage are additive rather than duplicated.
