Assisted Observation for Water Search
Water search is about surface and shoreline. Detection below the surface is a different problem with different tools and should be scoped separately.
Overview
- Search the shoreline and the surface layer; state clearly that sub-surface search is out of scope.
- Reflection, chop and glare vary strongly with sun angle — a second pass at a different angle can reveal what the first missed.
- Thermal imaging can help where a body's temperature differs from the water surface, under suitable conditions.
- Drift must be modelled into the search plan; searching where the object was last seen is rarely optimal.
