Assisted Observation for Mountain Search
In mountain search, the aircraft extends the searcher's view. It does not replace the search management decision about where to look.
Overview
- Fly assigned search segments so coverage is recorded and the same ground is not searched twice.
- Terrain shadowing means a flown line does not equal ground observed; effective coverage is smaller than the flight path.
- Relay findings to the search coordinator in a format that fits the existing tasking, not as a separate picture library.
- Wind and cloud at ridge level can prevent the sortie that the plan assumed.
