Preparing Inspection Image Samples
Sample quality decides the project. Ten thousand images from one sunny afternoon are less useful than two hundred that span the conditions you actually operate in.
Overview
- Cover the conditions: day and night, seasons, wet and dry, clean and dirty, new and aged assets.
- Include the negatives. A dataset of only defects teaches nothing about what normal looks like.
- Keep the original files and the capture metadata; re-encoded or cropped copies lose information you will need.
- Annotate a small subset first and check the disagreement rate before committing to a full labelling effort.
