Recording River Channel Obstacles
River obstacle recording is a navigation-safety and flood-risk product. It has to be repeatable, because the debris that matters is the debris that moves.
Overview
- Geo-reference every obstacle and classify it: bridge pier, anchored snag, mobile accumulation, vegetation island.
- Re-survey after high-flow events; the obstacle set changes faster than the survey cycle.
- Record water level at capture — an obstacle that is submerged today may not be tomorrow.
- Deliver in the format the river authority uses, with its own reach names.
