Recording Flood Inundation Extent
Flood extent recording is time-critical. An extent map without a timestamp relative to the flood peak has limited value.
Overview
- Record capture time and the nearest gauge reading; extent without stage is not interpretable.
- Extent is a maximum-observed extent, not a maximum possible extent — label it that way.
- Vegetation and turbidity hide the water edge; state the expected boundary uncertainty.
- Align the output to the flood agency's own reporting units.
