Writing a Customization Requirements Document
A requirements document is a contract with your future self. Write it so that a disagreement in month six can be settled by reading it.
Overview
- One requirement per line, measurable, with the method of verification next to it.
- Separate must-have from nice-to-have explicitly; a flat list guarantees an argument about priority.
- Write the exclusions. Most late disputes are about something nobody said was out of scope.
- Name the acceptance authority on the document itself.
