Platform Selection and Adaptation
Platform selection is a constraint-ranking exercise. Our job is to name the binding constraint early, even when it points away from a product we sell.
Overview
- Rank constraints by rigidity: regulatory and site constraints usually bind before performance ones.
- Test the candidate against each constraint in order, and stop at the first failure.
- Configuration adaptation follows selection: mounting, power, data, and the interface documentation that goes with it.
- Where the platform class is wrong for the task, say so at the selection stage rather than at the acceptance stage.
