Overview

  • Training is scoped by role: pilot, payload operator, maintainer and data handler do not need the same course.
  • Handover includes configuration records, so a replacement unit can be set up to the same state without guesswork.
  • Documentation covers normal procedure and the common failure paths — most incidents are recoverable if the recovery step is known.
  • Acceptance criteria are confirmed in writing before work starts, so training can be measured against them.

A system nobody can operate is stored, not delivered

This function covers physical handover, operator training and the documentation that makes both repeatable after the training team leaves.

The failure mode it exists to prevent is familiar: equipment arrives, one person is shown how to start it, that person leaves within the year, and the capability quietly decays into an expensive object in a store room.

Training scoped by role

Pilots, payload operators, maintainers and data handlers need different things, and teaching them all one combined course wastes everyone's time. Training is therefore scoped by role, and the depth matches what each role will actually be accountable for.

Documentation covers the normal procedure and the common failure paths. Most incidents are recoverable if whoever is standing there knows the recovery step; incidents become losses when that knowledge sits with one person who is not present.

Configuration records as part of handover

Handover includes the configuration record, so that a replacement unit can be brought to the same state without guesswork and without a support call. This is what configuration management is for in practice, rather than as an internal administrative artefact.

Acceptance criteria are confirmed in writing before work starts, which gives training something concrete to be measured against — described in how a project runs.
