Testing and Quality Team
Testing exists to find what is wrong before the customer does. It runs through incoming inspection, ground functional checks, flight verification and pre-delivery confirmation.
Overview
- Incoming inspection checks critical components before they are built in — defects found here cost hours, not site visits.
- Ground functional checks run the full payload and command chain, including degraded-link behaviour.
- Flight verification covers the configured aircraft, not a representative one; the payload is part of the test article.
- Results are recorded per serial number, so a delivered unit carries its own evidence.
Why testing is a separate function
Testing exists to find what is wrong before the customer does. Keeping it separate from the build means the people checking are not the people who made it, which is an ordinary independence argument and a genuinely useful one.
It runs across four stages: incoming component inspection, ground functional checks, flight verification, and pre-delivery confirmation.
The four stages
Incoming inspection checks critical components before they are built in. A defect found at this stage costs hours; the same defect found after integration costs dismantling, and found at the customer site costs a service visit and trust.
Ground functional checks exercise the full payload and command chain including its behaviour when the datalink degrades. Pass/fail against a written checklist is the point — not an impression formed while watching it work.
Flight verification is carried out on the configured aircraft, because the aircraft that is delivered is the one with the payload fitted — see flight test scheduling.
Pre-delivery confirmation reconciles the physical unit against its configuration record, which is what makes the equipment recognizable six months later.
Records attached to serial numbers
Results are recorded per serial number so that a delivered unit carries its own evidence rather than relying on a certificate covering a batch. Where a parameter depends on measurement conditions, the conditions are recorded alongside it.
The quality principles behind this, including what our quality management does and does not cover, are set out in quality management principles.
